Gulmarg ski resort sits on a high alpine table in Pir Panjal mountain range of Himalayas beneath the 4200m summit of Mt. Apharwat. Located on the western edge of the valley of Kashmir in the Western Himalayas at an attitude of 2600m from Sea level. The Pir Panjal mountain range is accessed by Gulmarg Gondola ski lift which drops you on Mt. Apharwat.
Gulmarg Ski resort is one of the best powder destinations in the world, to get access to higher peaks of Pir Panjal mountains, one can go for ski touring. Seasonal Pro’s come here to experience the amazing abundance of fresh, untracked powder covering the slopes of the majestic Mount Apharwat Thousand acres of untouched powder, Gulmarg has fantastic terrain and great snow but the facilities are not yet upto the standard of Western ski resorts.
Gulmarg get an average of 17 meters of snow each winter, During Storms it can snow several meters in a few days. The usual winter weather pattern in Gulmarg is extended periods of stable weather, blue sky after intense snow storms. During the snow storms when the upper Gondola is closed, we normally enjoy the deepest & driest snow conditions while skiing the perfectly spaced pine trees covering the local villages of Babareshi & Tangmarg. When the storms clear and avalanche conditions settle is when the vast alpine bowls above the mid station became the main focus.
